Anyone can utilize our facilities and services. In order to access our offerings, a membership is required (day options also exist). Membership rates vary based on affiliation with the University. Explore your options and reach out to us if you have any questions.

Membership definitions:
- Alumni: Must hold a degree from the University of Iowa. This category requires proof of graduation. A degree verification form is available through MyUI.uiowa.edu.
- For help logging onto MyUI, contact the IT help desk (319) 384-4357.
- You may also visit the Registrar Service Center in 2700 University Capitol Centre (UCC) with your photo ID where they can print the degree verification for you. If they have questions you can call the Verifications desk at (319) 335-0229.
- Alumni Sponsored Spouse/Domestic Partner: An Alumni Recreational Services Member can sponsor a Spouse/Domestic Partner at the same rate as the sponsoring member. The sponsoring member must be a Recreation Member in order to sponsor a Spouse/Domestic Partner Spouses and Domestic Partners will be required to show proof of one of the following:
- Piece(s) of official mail with each person’s name and address (examples include, but are not limited to: postmarked mail, company/hospital bill, bank statement, property tax, renter's agreement, etc.)
- Marriage Certificate or Affidavit of Domestic Partnership.
- Photo ID showing the same address.

Membership definitions:
- Community Member: Anyone not affiliated with the University of Iowa, who wishes to have access to the UI recreation facilities.
- Community Dependent (ages 4-18): Anyone not affiliated with the University of Iowa, who wishes to have access to the UI recreation facilities and is between the ages of 14 and 18 can purchase a Community Dependent membership without a sponsor. Also, Community Recreation Members can sponsor any dependents aged 4-18 for which they are legal guardians for memberships one month up to one year. Any dependent aged 4-13 that wants to purchase a Community Dependent membership must be sponsored by a Community Recreation Member who is their legal guardian. The fee listed is the fee per dependent. The sponsoring member must be a Recreation Member in order to sponsor a dependent. All individuals who are between 14-18 years old must present a photo ID to purchase a membership, for both scenarios.

- UI Faculty/Staff: Any Merit or Professional and Scientific employee with an appointment with the university, regardless of the percentage.
- UI Faculty/Staff Sponsored Spouse/Domestic Partner: A qualified UI Faculty/Staff can sponsor a Spouse/Domestic Partner at the same rate as the sponsoring member. The sponsoring member must be a Recreational Services Member in order to sponsor a Spouse/Domestic Partner. Spouses and Domestic Partners will be required to show proof of one of the following:

Perpetual Memberships:
Perpetual memberships are available to UI faculty/staff who choose to pay using monthly payroll deduction.
- There is a one-time $40 setup fee. The fee also covers the first calendar month of the membership.
- Signing up for the perpetual payroll deduction membership can only be done in person or by emailing us at rec-services@uiowa.edu.
Updating or canceling Perpetual Memberships:
If you are interested in changing your membership status, we require either the PDF Perpetual Cancellation Form or an Online Perpetual Cancellation Form to be submitted. Memberships and/or locker cancellations for employees in the Perpetual Payroll Deduction Program become effective no earlier than the last day of the month in which the cancellation notice is received. Because each month’s membership deductions are for the prior month’s service, the final deduction will occur on the next monthly paycheck after the requested date of cancellation.
Leaving or taking a break from the University? We suggest you also cancel your membership by filling out the form. Upon returning to the University, you can visit any of our facilities to sign up for the membership again.
Faculty/Staff Incentive Program:
Faculty/Staff at the University of Iowa have the opportunity to participate in the Faculty/Staff Recreation Membership Incentive Program. The program is designed to allow UI faculty and staff the opportunity to earn a 50% incentive towards an annual single faculty/staff membership (Monthly membership = $40.00/month; incentive =$20/month). To qualify, the following criteria must be met:
- Active Faculty/Staff in a 50% or greater regular position and House Staff and Postdoctoral Research Scholars
- Complete the liveWELL Personal Health Assessment (PHA) survey one time annually (each calendar year beginning January 1 or past 90 days)
- Use one of the Recreational Services facilities a minimum of four times a month
- Enrollment in the perpetual payroll deduction membership (monthly/annual membership options are not eligible for participation).

Currently a UI Faculty/Staff member and a UI Student?
UI Faculty/Staff who are enrolled for classes at the UI will be assessed the student recreation fee. Those UI Faculty/Staff who have purchased a Recreational Services membership may apply for a refund of the student recreation fee paid. To receive the refund, the UI Faculty/Staff must submit the Recreation Fee Refund Form no later than the last day of classes for the semester for which a refund is requested:

Membership definitions:
- UI Student – Enrolled: Any current UI Student who is paying mandatory student fees.
- UI Student – No Fee: A current UI Student who is enrolled in classes but not assessed a mandatory recreation fee.
- UI Student – Not Enrolled: This reduced membership is available for ONE session (Fall, Spring, or Summer) for anyone who meets any one of the following criteria: A) a student who has been admitted to the University of Iowa ONE session prior to their enrollment, B) a student who is taking a session off during their enrollment at the University of Iowa, C) a student who has just graduated from the University of Iowa.
- 2 + 2 Student: Any student who is enrolled in the first two years of the 2+2 program.
- Student Spouse/Domestic Partner: Any UI Student status (Enrolled, Not Enrolled, No Fee, 2+2) can sponsor their Spouse/Domestic Partner. The student must be a current Recreation Member in order to sponsor a Student Spouse/Domestic Partner. Spouses and Domestic Partners will be required to show proof of one of the following:

Daily Walk-Ins
A Daily Walk-in fee can be paid in order to gain admittance to all recreation facilities on campus for one calendar day (not 24 hours). Purchase includes access to fitness equipment, open recreation, group fitness classes, and pools when open.
Daily Walk-in Policies
- ID Policy: Recreational Services will require a photo ID for anyone 14 and older when purchasing a daily pass.
- Youth Policy: Youth ages 13 and under must be directly supervised by an adult to access Recreational Services facilities. Youth 13 and under are not allowed in the fitness areas. They are also not able to take regular group fitness or mind/body classes.
- Refund Policy: Refunds for daily walk-ins will only be accepted within 15 minutes of purchasing the membership. Anyone who uses the facility longer than 15 minutes will not be eligible for the refund.

Membership Code of Conduct
Patrons are expected to respect the rights of others and follow all university policies and codes, as well as Recreational Services rules and procedures. Disruptive behavior, as determined by Recreational Services staff, will not be tolerated. Appropriate attire should be worn according to specific activity areas. Failure to adhere to this Code or university policies may result in a patron being removed from a facility/program, termination of their membership, and/or expulsion from Recreational Services facilities.

Recreational Services accepts cash, check, or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or Discover) for all Membership Types.
UI Students and Faculty/Staff can also pay by charging to their UBill.
Payroll deduction is only available for Faculty/Staff Perpetual memberships.
Fac/Staff Payroll Deduct Perpetual Memberships:
- You can fill out an Online Perpetual Membership Cancellation Form, which will be sent to the Assistant Director of Facility Operations, OR
- You can fill out the form in person at the CRWC, Field House, or Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex, or fill out the PDF and submit via email: rec-services@uiowa.edu or drop off in person at the buildings previously listed.
- Check to see if you meet all of the requirements listed here.
- If you meet the requirements, visit the CRWC, Field House, or Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex to sign up for a faculty/staff perpetual membership.
- If you don't meet the requirements, you can still sign up for a faculty/staff perpetual membership, but you will not receive the incentive credit.
You will see the full membership fee taken out of your Ubill each month, and the incentive credit (if achieved) shows up under the “earnings” section of your paycheck.
- Example: If you meet all of the requirements in January, you will see the incentive credit on your March 1 paycheck under the “earnings” section.
Check your visits online, or call/visit the member services desk at one of the indoor facilities. When you visit the online registration page, follow these steps:
- Login in the upper right hand corner.
- Select your username and then select 'Profile'
- Select 'Facilities Access'. You will then see all your visits.
- If you attended a virtual fitness class, you will also want to select 'Program Attendance'. Here is where you will see your check in status for virtual fitness classes.

Every member gets two free forgotten ID passes per semester. You can also download the Recreational Services App and use your Digital ID Barcode to gain access.
Guests are welcome at all indoor facilities! Simply pay the daily walk-in fee. Everyone 14 years and older needs to have a photo ID with them to access our facilities.

Memberships are non-refundable except for medical and health conditions, deployment, or extraneous circumstances with written verification. Members may request a refund by completing a Refund Request Form.
Members who pay via monthly payroll deduction will not be issued refunds/credits for previous deductions.
