Field House Pool
Recreational Services offers a variety of aquatics programs at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center and the Field House. Programs and services include Swim Lessons, open swim, lap swim, Masters Swim, an age group competitive swim club (the Iowa Flyers), and American Red Cross Certification Courses. We also host a number of special events including all Iowa Hawkeye Swimming and Diving competitions, age-group and club swimming meets, diving competitions, water polo, Division of Student Life activities, and private party events.
Pools
The Diving Well is used by Recreational Services and the University of Iowa Swimming and Diving Team.
In order to use the Diving Well everyone visiting will need to have a membership. There are daily memberships available for purchase upon arrival at the CRWC. Please note a photo ID is required for anyone 14 and older wishing to enter the facility.
Diving Well information
- Depth: 14 to 17 feet
- Pool Temp: 82 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit

- Springboards: two 3-meter, and two 1-meter
- Platform boards heights: 10-meter, 7.5-meter, 5-meter, 3-meter, and 1-meter

Diving Well rules
- A Recreational Services lifeguard must be present before entering the water.
- Emergency Signal—3 whistle blasts. Exit the pool immediately.
- Proficient swimming ability is required. Flotation devices may be used only during supervised instructional classes or with consent of the aquatic director.
- Use of diving towers and diving harnesses is restricted to authorized collegiate divers, or approved groups, under the direct supervision of certified diving coaches or instructors.
- When diving boards and diving towers are in use, swim only in designated areas.
- Goggles and other eyewear may not be worn while using the diving boards or diving towers.
- Activity deemed unsafe by the lifeguard will be prohibited.
- No horseplay in or around the swimming pool.
- No running on the deck.
- Do not enter the pool if you have a communicable disease or an open wound.
- Shower before entering the pool and after use of restroom facilities.
- Proper swimwear is required.
- Glass containers are prohibited in the pool area.
- Do not bring food, drink, gum, alcohol, or tobacco products into the pool.
The Natatorium is our Olympic sized swimming pool that is used by Recreational Services and the University of Iowa Swimming and Diving Team.
In order to use the Natatorium everyone visiting will need to have a membership. There are daily memberships available for purchase upon arrival at the CRWC. Please note a photo ID is required for anyone 14 and older wishing to enter the facility.
Natatorium information
- Depth: 7 to 9 feet
- Pool Temp: 79 to 81 Degrees Fahrenheit
- Open Rec. Format: Lap Swim Only
- Configuration Schedule*:
- August - March: 25-yard short course configuration
- March - August: 50-meter long course configuration
*Configuration may be adjusted based on aquatics events.
The above are general timelines for the competitive pool configuration. There may be instances within either period of time where the pool is set up in the opposite or another configuration based on the pool programming or special events.

- No diving in the shallow end of the swimming pool and in other areas where it is marked “NO DIVING”.
- No horseplay in or around the swimming pool.

- Do not enter the pool if you have a communicable disease or an open wound.
- Shower before entering the pool and after use of restroom facilities.

- Glass containers are prohibited in the pool area.
- Do not bring food, drink, gum, alcohol, or tobacco products into the pool.
- Swimming or diving instruction may be provided solely by Recreational Services aquatics staff or approved groups.

Rec Pool rules
- A Recreational Services lifeguard must be present before entering the water.
- If you are planning to bring a group of 10 or more, you must contact the Aquatics department at 319-384-3439 two weeks prior.
- Emergency Signal— three whistle blasts. Exit the pool immediately.
- No diving anywhere in the rec pool.
- Proficient swimming ability is required in deep water areas.
- Only U.S. Coast Guard approved floatation devices or those provided by Recreational Services may be used.
- Proper swimwear is required.
- Infants and toddlers who are not toilet-trained must wear swim diapers.
- Responsible supervising adult must be within arms-reach of non-swimmers.
- Activity deemed unsafe by the lifeguard will be prohibited.
- No running on the deck.
- Do not enter the pool if you have a communicable disease or an open wound.
- Shower before entering the pool and after use of restroom facilities.
- Glass containers are prohibited in the pool area.
- Do not bring food, drink, gum, alcohol, or tobacco products into the pool.
- Swimming or diving instruction may be provided solely by Recreational Services aquatics staff or approved groups.
Bouldering Wall rules
- Proficient swimming ability is required to use bouldering wall.
- No swimming or diving in the bouldering wall area.
- No horseplay on or around the bouldering wall.
- Patrons are prohibited from climbing on top of the bouldering wall.
- Activity deemed unsafe by the lifeguard will be prohibited.
- All general pool rules and rec pool rules apply.
Rec Pool Spa rules
- Children shall be accompanied by an adult (persons under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a supervising adult).
- Persons with a medical condition, including pregnancy, should not use the spa without first consulting with a physician.
- Anyone having a contagious disease shall not use the spa.
- Persons shall not use the spa immediately following exercise or while under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, or other drugs.
- Persons shall not use the spa alone or without supervision.
- Persons shall not use the spa longer than ten minutes.
- No one shall dive or jump into the spa.
- Do not bring reading materials or toys into the spa.
- All general pool rules and rec pool rules apply.
When the swimming pool was built, it was the largest indoor collegiate swimming pool in the United States. The pool was meant to double as a reservoir for fire fighting. Swimming pool users may access the pool directly from the dressing rooms via a tunnel. - Proficient swimming ability is required in deep water areas.
- No swimming or reaching beneath the moveable bulkhead.
- The use of starting platforms is limited to approved user groups.
- Do not enter the pool if you have a communicable disease or an open wound.
- Shower before entering the pool and after the use of restroom facilities.
- Proper swimwear is required.
- Glass containers are prohibited in the pool area.
- Do not bring food, drink, gum, alcohol, or tobacco products into the pool.
- Swimming or diving instruction may be provided solely by Recreational Services aquatics staff or approved groups.
- The use of the diving platform is strictly prohibited by all groups.
- Activity deemed unsafe by the lifeguard will be prohibited.
Swim suit policy
All swimwear must be clean and appropriate in coverage. This includes full coverage of the buttocks, breasts, and groin areas. Transparent or revealing swimwear is prohibited.
For infants and children:
- Infants and children that are not toilet trained must wear swim diapers.
- Infants and children in swim diapers must have a swimsuit over the swim diaper at all times

Pool parties
Want to rent the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Rec Pool for a party? We can help!
Cost $250.00. All rates include pool rental and lifeguards.
Full payment for your package is required in order to secure your party reservation and must be paid at the time your party is booked.
- If you wish to cancel your party you must do so two weeks prior to your party date in order to get a full refund of your package price.
- If canceled within two weeks of your party, you will receive a 50 percent refund.
- This policy also applies if you wish to switch your party date if you do wish to switch date and we can accommodate you, it must be done two weeks before your original date was scheduled.
Users may bring in their own food if they wish, but please keep in mind:
- NO glass allowed, including: water bottles, Pyrex food containers, pickle jars, crock pots lids – you name it!
- There is no refrigerator access.
- No alcoholic beverages may be brought in or consumed in the facility.
Reservations
The Rec Pool can be rented on Saturdays from:
- 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
- 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
The first 1.5 hours will take place in the Rec Pool and the last hour in dry space.
Parties can be reserved up to four months ahead of the requested date.
